چکیده
Irrigation food crops are intensively cultivated on/or around the abandoned tin mine areas in Plateau State, Nigeria. Vegetables on contaminated soil a potential risk to human health, particularly, through consumption. The physico-chemical properties of and sediment revealed that soil/sediment were acidic, non- saline low fertility. Most heavy metals’ concentrations agricultural soils above DPR maximum allowable limits with order abundance metals as Fe>>Mn>Cr>Cu>Zn>Ni>Pb. ingestion health index (HI) children dermal route both adults greater than 1 indicating adverse effect. Contamination index, degree contamination pollution load indices indicated slight excessive pollution, ultra-high very highly polluted sediments respectively. geo accumulation showed was from uncontaminated moderately Zn (0< Igeo< 1) extremely Fe (5< Igeo). There no enrichment (0 ˂ EF studied matrices but ecological pollution; (Eri<40) considerable (80≤Er<160) substantial contributions Cu Cr. moderate (150≤R<300) for all locations study. assessment vegetables HQ HI values tomatoes B/Ladi higher other vegetables. Risk Assessment and Spatial Modeling of Heavy Metals Contamination in Topsoil around Venarj Manganese Mine by Artificial Neural Networks Method
Background and Objectives: The aim of the present study was to assess the probable heavy metals contamination in topsoil surrounding Venarj mine in Qom province using contamination indices and artificial neural networks method. Material and methods: in order to evaluate the contamination status around Venarj mine in Qom province, 70 soil samples were collected in an area of 22 Km2, and the to...
متن کاملHealth Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Soil from the Iron Mines of Itakpe and Agbaja, Kogi State, Nigeria
The study evaluates associated health risks of heavy metals in the soil to inhabitants of two mining areas of Nigeria. For so doing, it collects and analyses nine homogenous soil samples for their lead, copper, cadmium, zinc, and chromium levels, using AAS. The samples are then used to calculate health risks to adults and children. For adult population in Agbaja community, the calculated hazard...

متن کاملAssessment of Terrain and Land Use/Land Cover Changes of Mine Sites using Geospatial Techniques in Plateau State, Nigeria
In this paper, we report a geospatial assessment of the selected mine sites in the Plateau State, Nigeria. The aim of this work is to determine the impact of mining on the terrain as well as the Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) of the host communities. The Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) is used for the terrain mapping. The derived impact of mining on LULC between 1975 and 2014 is determined...
متن کاملContamination by trace elements of agricultural soils around Sidi Bou Othmane in abandoned mine tailings in Marrakech, Morocco
This study was carried out for the purpose of investigating the issue of tailings dams as a potential source of contamination by trace elements in soils at the Sidi Bou Othmane mine in the Marrakech Region, Morocco. Soil samples taken from depths of up to 15 cm and within a radius of 50 m from the tailings dams, were analyzed for Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn using atomic absorption spectrometry. Average c...
